Kuan Yin is the Mandarin name for Avalokitesvara which literally means “ one who perceives the worlds lamentations.” She is know as the Goddess of Mercy because she embodies compassion, comfort, healing, guidance, and success. She is often depicted as a female form in Mahayana Buddhism and Taoism. She can appear in any form, male or female, in order to benefit and teach the Dharma to all sentient beings.
